What is coaching?
The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Coaching has its roots in the Greek ancient philosophy and more specifically in the Socratic method known as "midwifing" or "Μαιευτική". The method of Socrates was based on a continuous dialogue between the philosopher and the people through a dynamic interchange of questions and answers, aiming to recall the truth from people's memories.
Socrates as well as the modern coaches believed that every person owns his truth and the role of the philosopher/coach is to bring it up to the surface of their memory by challenging their belief systems. Coaching trusts that every person already has his/her answers within him/her and the role of the coach is to help that truth to be revealed.
How does coaching work?
Coaching is all about identifying your goals and then setting out a roadmap that will help you achieve them. Your coach is there to offer support, advice and accountability throughout the process.
Online coaching usually begins with an introductory session which allows you to meet a coach and decide if you feel comfortable discussing your personal and professional life with them.

How to choose a coach?
When researching coaches, you should look for qualifications that are recognized by at least one of the 3 biggest professional bodies: the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and the Association for Coaching (AC).
It's important for the coach to have significant experience towards her/his specialization. Example: You can't expect results on how to manage corporate politics when your coach has never worked in a corporate environment. Paying for a coaching session is a significant investment and you should make the most of it. So, join the ranks of those who walk their talk!
Before you choose a coach it is advisable to do research via the Internet to cross-check the background of the coach, the working experience, and his/her overall studies and credentials.
Beyond this, make sure to pick a coach that you feel at ease speaking with. You need to be comfortable discussing the challenges and struggles you face, so it is essential that you choose a coach you can trust.
This is why most coaches provide a free, introductory session before enrolling new clients. You can sign up for a 30-minute discovery call with me by clicking "Book a Discovery Call" in the Services section.
What is ICF and EMCC accreditation?
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the largest organization that sets standards and provides independent certification for coaches around the world.
The European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) is the second largest organization which creates a range of industry-standard frameworks, rules, and processes for coaching, mentoring, and related supervision.
My Diploma in Personal, Leadership, and Executive Coaching from Kingstown College is ICF and EMCC accredited, which means I meet the highest professional standards. Furthermore, I have been an active member of both ICF and EMMC since 2023.
Should I choose a Life or Career Coach?
A life coach is a trained professional who helps people progress toward their personal goals and feel greater fulfillment. They often help clients improve their day-to-day lives.
A career coach is a trained professional who helps people identify what is the real professional path that will make them feel fulfilled, create a detailed career plan, and acquire the necessary skills they need to achieve such a plan. My coaching studies cover both areas.
Coaching vs Mentoring - What's the difference?
Both coaching and mentoring include one-to-one meetings which contribute to an individual's professional development. But there are some distinct differences between the two approaches.
Mentoring is when an experienced colleague passes on skills or knowledge to a 'mentee'. The process is usually quite informal. Coaching, on the other hand, is run by a specially trained coach who uses their development skills to help an individual reach their goals and achieve their full potential. Coaching is more structured and often takes place over a defined time period too.
Coaching vs Therapy - What's the difference?
Coaching focuses on defining and achieving future goals. Therapy, on the other hand, usually involves looking to the past and present to resolve issues that may impact your future.
